- AI never connects to the systems your business runs on.
- You choose exactly which data goes in, and results come back read-only.
- ISD designs, sets up and supports the environment; your team stays in control of the data.
In brief
Many businesses want to analyse their data with AI but do not want AI tools connected to their live systems: finance, client records, production databases or email. An isolated analysis environment, sometimes called an AI data clean room or AI warehouse, is a middle path. Selected data is exported to a separate environment on purpose, analysed there, and the results come back through controlled, read-only views.
How it works
- Select: your team decides which data to export, and in what form (for example with personal details removed or masked).
- Transfer: the data is copied into the isolated environment through a controlled, logged route. Nothing is pulled from live systems automatically.
- Analyse: AI tools and analysts work on the copy inside the environment, which has no connection back to live systems.
- Return: results are published through read-only views or reports. Nothing is written back to live systems without a separate, deliberate step by your team.
- Retire: data is deleted from the environment when the work is finished, according to an agreed retention period.
Why businesses choose it
- Live systems stay untouched. AI never has credentials for, or a network path to, the systems you run on.
- Clear boundaries. It is easy to show what data was used, by whom and when.
- Easier compliance conversations. Data minimisation, retention and access are designed in, which supports obligations under laws such as HK PDPO and UK GDPR.
- Flexibility. The environment can run on your own premises or in a dedicated, isolated hosted setup, depending on your rules and preferences.
What ISD does
ISD helps businesses plan, design, set up and support the environment: the separation from live systems, the transfer route, access control, logging, backups and retention. Your team decides what data goes in and how the results are used.
Things to consider
- The environment is only as safe as the export: decide carefully what is copied in.
- Read-only results still need access control: reports can contain sensitive information.
- It suits periodic analysis and projects better than tasks that need live, up-to-the-minute data.
Note. This page describes an approach, not a fixed product. Every environment is designed around the business's own data, rules and systems, so each needs its own assessment. No particular vendor or tool is implied.
