OpenAI describes planned interventions for violence fixation and tighter weapons-related limits for teens.

ISD view: why it matters

Rollout commitments should be distinguished from safeguards already operating for every user.

What happened

In its 30 October post, OpenAI says ChatGPT will be able to end chats showing fixation on violence or seriously harming another person, with possible temporary account pauses after repeated endings. It also describes tighter weapons-related information limits for teens and a first Community Safety Report in early 2027 covering the second half of 2026. OpenAI says these safeguards will begin rolling out in the next few weeks; this is not a claim that rollout is complete.
